Dr. Mark McCullough, DDS, BSc
Why does Mark like being a dentist so much? “I love working with people, and also working with my hands and doing highly technical things,” he says.
“I’m kind of a construction worker!” he laughs. “It’s like I’m a site planner, engineer, construction worker, and ribbon cutter all in one. I’ve done almost everything in dentistry, and now I specialize in surgical procedures that make a big difference to people’s lives.”
An early and contagious passion
Since the young age of 12, Mark’s goal was to become a dentist. While his best friend at that time wasn’t interested in dentistry, later in life Mark’s enthusiasm would win him over, and now Dr. Tim Winlow is a fellow dentist as well as a close friend.
Together they established a program with Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) to help young cancer survivors in need of treatment recover their dental health.
Training and early career
Mark was awarded his BSc from the University of Western Ontario, and received his DDS from the University of Toronto in 2002.
He moved to Ottawa in 2004, where his main focus became putting of all of the new and emerging technologies to work to bring patients the best possible standard of care.
An ongoing commitment to excellence
Mark continues to educate both himself and other dentists. His more recent qualifications have been in IV sedation, microscope enhanced dentistry, digital dentistry, and integrated implantology. He is also trained to place full zirconia dental implants (Ceraroot) in addition to common titanium dental implants.
He has been teaching at Algonquin College since 2005 and sits on the college’s Dental Advisory Committee. He also lectures both nationally and internationally on dental technology and integrated implantology.
Mark is an active member of the Ottawa Dental Society Council. He founded the Ottawa CEREC study club, and co-founded Capital Dentistry and the Capital Dentistry study club. He also helps with beta testing of materials and methods for many major dental companies in digital implant, restorative and sleep dentistry.
