Since the dawn of time…ok, perhaps only since we’ve been able to record information about the human experience, there have been great strides technologically. We are able to do so much more than we were able to 100 years ago, however there are certain things that have seemed to have worsened with time. Take for instance, the human body. Based on particular environments throughout time, the body went through different types of adaptation processes (ex: extra body hair for warmth, larger sharper teeth to eat raw foods, etc.). Those adaptations were able to help humans survive and thrive, yet with all of the advances that we have in the modern world, there seems to be a prevalence of issues.
Take for instance our overall dental health. There have been leaps and bounds technologically to make our dental health top notch, yet the amount of dental issues that exist is still alarming. In part due to how we regularly maintain our teeth, but also what we put into our bodies. Here are some things that may be to blame for why the modern human body is prone to dental issues:
Processed Food – The body wasn’t made to understand the complexities that is processed food. The more you consume it, the more you are making your mouth susceptible to certain issues, as well as the rest of your body.
Eating Habits – It’s not just what we put into our system, but the amount and how often. Overeating is a serious issue that can cause many other complicated health issues that go beyond the mouth.
Make sure you do your part to ward off all oral issues by visiting your Ottawa dentist regularly, practicing healthy oral care techniques and eating a healthy diet rich in vitamins and nutrients.
