When it comes to being helpful and giving toward others, there is no better time than the holidays. Of course, lending a helping hand is something that we should all be practicing on a regular basis throughout the year, but the holidays are a great jumping off point to begin becoming a more helpful person.
Dentists are able to help people achieve the perfect smile they’ve always wanted, but they are also able to do so much more. “A Bedford dentist recently returned from a Syrian refugee camp in Jordan where she volunteered providing dental care. Dr. Aasra El-Darahali and her sister, who is also a dentist, travelled to one of the largest camps in the Middle East where 80,000 Syrian refugees are living.
Over the course of a week in November, they both saw between 15 and 20 patients a day in a clinic set up by two refugees. The need, she said, was overwhelming. In less than a month they received $10,000 worth of donations and they were able to leave behind a dental chair “as a symbol of Haligonian, Nova Scotian hospitality.”
With all of the news and opinions that are circulating throughout the media, it’s nice to see something positive that is helpful toward those in need. ‘Tis the season!
